Description

“Just give us your best sixteen bars” can be the hardest thing for a singer to hear before an audition. How do you make an impression with so little time? Sing the chorus? The bridge?

Event Details

Go for the drama? The big note? What do they want to hear?! Choosing the right sixteen bars and what you do with them can make or break a musical theatre singer. Auditioning is its own specific skill, and this abbreviated form of auditioning can be panic-inducing. It does not have to be!
This four hour workshop is specifically for musical theatre performers who are auditioning regularly, or want to start doing so. Learn how to show the best of your work every time, get the accompanist on your side and ensure that are getting everything out of the 16 bars you have to show them who you are as a vocalist and performer.
Each participant should prepare two memorized 16 bar edits of audition songs. They can be what you are currently using as contrasting choices or two similar pieces you want to decide between or a song you want to try out for the first time!
**You must provide sheet music for your pieces, in the correct key, with the 16 bar edits clearly marked. Accompanist provided.  The workshop will take place in the Uptown Players rehearsal space at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.
Advanced youth Welcome! Parents, just know language and song content will not be censored.
6:30pm-10:30pm.
$150 to sing; $50 to audit only, with no singing participation - all attendees will hear all feedback, discussion and Q&A.
