Description
Gather your furry friends and come out to Operation Kindness' Dog Day Afternoon – the largest festival in Dallas celebrating dogs and the people who love them.
Event Details
This year Operation Kindness will celebrate their 40th anniversary at the annual free event on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Flag Pole Hill near White Rock Lake. This year’s goal of setting a new world record for the world’s largest dog cake would break the current record set in April 2011 in London – that cake was baked in honor the Royal Wedding and weighed 150.91 pounds.
Sponsored by Blue Buffalo, Operation Kindness is working with Catering by Larry to bake a dog friendly cake that is estimated to be more than 170 pounds. The cake will feature healthy, natural Blue Buffalo dog food; mashed potato and sweet potato icing; carrots and peas for “confetti” and Blue Buffalo treats as garnishes. More than 600 canine guests will receive a complimentary piece of cake, with the first 100 dogs receiving their cake in a commemorative Blue Buffalo dog bowl.
Sponsored by Pet Supplies Plus, Dog Day Afternoon will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – rain or shine – at Flag Pole Hill, 8100 Doran Circle in Dallas. Admission and parking are free. Highlights include:
• “Mutt Midway” with dozens of vendors selling a wide variety of pet-related merchandise, puppy kissing booth and games with prizes
• Canine contests for trophies and prizes including: Best Costume, Stupid Pet Tricks and Best Pooch Smooch, sponsored by Natural Balance Pet Foods
• Food trucks selling an assortment of food and drinks including: Kona Ice, The Great Austrailian Meat Pie Company, Popstar Popsicles and many more
• Goodie bags for the first 1,000 humans
• Free “Ask the Vet” tent featuring City Vet Addison
• Free microchipping for the first 125 dogs, sponsored by Pethealth Inc.
• Doggie splash pools to beat the heat
